Minneota Camp of Modern Woodmen hold meeting
The Minneota Camp of Modern Woodmen held a social meeting last Tuesday evening and about 40 members were present. Cards were the principal entertainment. An oyster stew and coffee were prepared by P.O. Peterson, the "Main Street" caterer and was enjoyed by all. There were plenty of oysters but the distribution fell on a clerk who had never served them before and he put most of the oysters in the first bowls and when it came time to dishing out the latter half, he found he had few oysters remaining and some attendees got only a bowl of milk.
George Benson buys out Community Theatre business
George Benson announced recently that he has bought out the Community Theatre business and that he expected hereafter to continue the same viewings under his own personal supervision. George was in the movie business here for a while some years ago so he is no stranger to the game. He expects to cater to every class and every taste. He said that he is in the business to make it pay and that if he can't do that he will quit.
Railroad agent discusses problems with industry here
W.R. Carpenter of Mankato, a district agent for the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad company, was in Minneota on Monday. Mr. Carpenter is well versed in many of the things that concern the business of railroading and puts up a very intelligent discussion on the problems that confront the industry. He says that the railroads have never had more business in freight hauling than now, but that in spite of the fact that this exceptional business is forthcoming the operating expense is so large that the revenue can not cope with it.

Minneota sailors aid in search for missing B-29
Two Minneota sailors, Robert and Richard Drown, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Drown of Minneota, participated in the Atlantic search for the crew of a missing B-29 Superfortress, while serving aboard the USS Gyatt with the North European Task Force. The Drown twins, who have been together since they joined the U.S. Navy, are firemen apprentices. The missing plane was lost on a flight from Dakar, South Africa, to Marham, England, on Jan, 29. Units of the British and French fleets joined with the American Task Force in the search for the aircraft.
Legion certificate holders agree to 10 percent reduction
Fourteen men who hold certificates of indebtedness issued by the local American Legion Post agreed at a meeting Wednesday afternoon to cut their certificates 10 percent if the Village of Minneota takes over the Legion building. There are a total of 23 certificate holders. These certificate holders learned that A.K. Hasslen, who was in charge of erecting the building, had agreed earlier in the day to reduce the debt the Legion owes him $1,000 if the certificate holders voted a 10 percent cut and $2,000 if they voted a 20 percent cut. The American Legion has issued certificates of indebtedness in the amount of $22,500 and it owes Mr. Hasslen $6,072,55.
$410 was top price paid at Dovre Gilt Sale
The top price paid for a bred Duroc gilt was $410 which Knute Dovre held at the Marshall Fairgrounds Monday evening. A total of 50 gilts were sold. The second highest price was $400 and the lowest was $135. One of the largest crowds ever to attend an auction in the pavilion was on hand when Mr. Dovre put his gilts up for sale. Buyers from Illinois, North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa and Minnesota purchased animals. John Bauke of Andover, SD. was the highest bidder of the evening.

Kile, local shoe repairman, celebrates 50 years in business
Minneota shoe repairman H.M. Kile has been in business for over 50 years and he marked the occasion this week quietly, fixing shoes as usual. Mr. Kile learned his trade under his father and served his apprenticeship with him in the early 1920s and then worked for a time in Canby. He returned to Minneota in 1924 and has been here ever since. His business was first located in a part of what is now the Nordquist and Bourgeois Furniture building. The then moved into a portion of the old post office building, which is now the Minneota Clinic. He moved to his present location 33 years ago.
Schulte elected president of Minneota Businessmen's Assn.
Dr. Robert Schulte was elected president of the Minneota Businessmen's Association when the organization's board of directors met for the purpose of naming officers for 1974 at a meeting held last week. The directors also elected Luther Larson the vice president and Jack Rehkamp secretary and treasurer. Other members of the board are Wynston Boe, Juston Anderson, Gayle Bernardy, and Mrs. Leonard Richards.
Senator McCarthy set to speak at Taunton banquet
Eugene McCarthy, a former United States Senator from Minnesota, will be speaking at the annual Father-Son Banquet of Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church on Sunday, March 3.

Minneota wrestlers win Section 4A team title
The Section 4A team wrestling trophy came home to Minneota on Saturday night after a very dramatic 30-24 win over Adrian at Southwest State University. The team now prepares for the state tournament held Feb. 25-27 at the Target Center in Minneapolis. Todd Opdahl at 112 pounds, Tim Laleman at 125, James Miller at 140, Matt Coequyt at 145, Ryan Fier at 152, Josh Sanow at 171, and Mike Coequyt at heavyweight all won matches against Adrian.
Minneota Fire Department called to fire at elevator
The Minneota Fire Department was called to the Minneota branch of the Taunton Coop Elevator to extinguish a fire that started in one of the corn dryers that was in use at the time. The incident occurred last Monday afternoon. According to Bill Doyscher, manager of the elevators, the damage was minor and the fire was quickly extinguished.
Community Ed's Valentine's Day event termed successful
The dinner and musical event last Sunday, staged by the Minneota Community Education, was a fun night of good food and good entertainment. The Valentine's Day event was held at the Minneota Public School. DeVos Catering supplied an excellent meal of roast beef and pork loin, spinach salad, potatoes and gravy, green beans, fruit salad, rolls, dessert and beverages.
