Election season is well underway and the tension is high. Recently 43 political signs were taken from residences in Minneota. Thankfully a parent of those responsible located the signs and returned them to me along with a very scared and sorry juvenile offender. It is extremely rare to be able to solve this type of crime and I appreciate the help that I received from the community and fellow employees of the City of Minneota. Theft from a residence is a very personal violation of the victim and I understand the anger such a crime invokes. In this particular situation, two juvenile males snuck out during the early morning hours on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2024, and thought it would be fun to take a golf cart and steal signs from people’s yards. A few people who happened to have been awake that morning along with the security video from two residences helped move the investigation forward. A few suggestions - Please know where your children are, what they are doing, and who they are with. Install security cameras on your property and turn on your porch lights to help light your neighborhoods. Prevention is the key.
