Board rejects fairgrounds camping sites
The Lyon County Board Tuesday declined four overnight camping sites on fairgrounds property.
Roger Schroeder, who is in charge of the camping, indicated there are sites along the tier that could offer electrical hookups.
“With the extent of request for camping in Marshall — this seems a suitable response that would meet an existing need,” said Schroeder.
Commissioner Rick Anderson said, “I just don’t think this is the place for this. There will be other requests, like bathrooms, so I just have to say no.”
Commissioner Charlie Sanow agreed with Commissioner Anderson based on the fact their are residents across the river from the potential camp sites.
“There are people living there across the river, so as much as I would like to offer this, I can’t,” said Commissioner Paul Graupmann.
IN OTHER action the board: •Adopted a resolution granting execution of a cooperative agreement with the Minnesota Department of Transportation to build and maintain a proposed Highway 23 and County 7 “J Turn” south of Marshall. Lyon County will provide winter snow and ice removal of the westbound ramp.
•Approved funding of $1,292.85 to Southern Minnesota Tourism Association and $1,000 to Explore SW Minnesota.
•Approved allowing Environmental Administrator Schroeder to seek bids to complete Phase II of the current landfill site and make repairs at the site.
