CHARLES FRIEND

1931-2025

Charles L Friend of Eden Prairie passed away peacefully on July 3, 2025 surrounded by his loving family.
Chuck was born on April 4, 1931, in Marshall, MN and grew up in his beloved Minneota. He married Lucille Fier of Taunton, the love of his life. They were married for 72 years and were inseparable. Shortly after graduating from Minneota High School, he enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed in Albuquerque, NM. Chuck was an exceptional athlete and starred on the Air Force basketball team. After serving his country, he and Lucy moved to Bloomington to raise their family.
Chuck was a dedicated employee of the US Postal Service for over 30 years. His patrons and fellow employees enjoyed a close relationship. He coached youth baseball and basketball through the Bloomington Athletic Association for many years. The youth he coached benefited from his knowledge of the game, skill set development and the building of self-esteem. Chuck was a huge Minnesota sports fan, cheering on the Twins, Vikings, Timberwolves and Gophers. Chuck loved playing cards and excelled at cribbage. Chuck also knew his way around the dance floor and was always instep with Lucy. Family was always first for Chuck and his greatest enjoyment came from family gatherings.
Chuck is survived by his spouse Lucille, stepbrother Orrin Stevens (Barb), children Jim (Mary), Patti Peterka ( Dan), Bruce (Cathy), Tim (Kari) and Dave (Cherie). His legacy also lives on in his 14 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Hazel Friend, stepmother Lillian Friend, sister Colleen Moorse (Leo) and stepsister Ellayne Stevens Kortuem.
A memorial mass will be held on July 25 at St. Bonaventure Church in Bloomington at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, Chuck’s family asks that donations be made to St. Bonaventure Church or a charity of your choice.
