Bowyer 18th at state golf meet
Lauren Bowyer entered the Class A State Girls' Golf Tournament with ambitions of finishing in the top 15 or 20. She hit that goal, finishing 18th out of 84 golfers with a two-day score of 91-95 for a 186.
"It is hard to perform well your first trip on the big stage both days and Lauren did great," said coach Nicole Evers. "Under 100 both days was awesome. It has been a fun season watching her work hard. We had a fun and memorable state trip."
Bowyer finished the first day in 13th place and moved up to 11th place on the second day with three holes remaining before running into a little trouble on one hole.
"Other than the one bad hole, I did pretty well," said the Minneota senior-to-be. "But I shook it off and finished the final hole with a par. I had a bunch of fun and always had a smile on my face."
Bowyer was among the longer drivers competing at state and was able to control her tee shots down most fairways. But her short game let her down a little at times.
"Lauren had an amazing state tournament," said Evers. "She didn’t have any shots out of the sand or penalty strokes on the first day. That’s pretty impressive with how much sand and penalty areas are on that course."
Emily Stueland of Park Christian and Sarah Halvorson of Lac qui Parle Valley were co-champions of the Class A individual title after each shot a two-day total of 166. Isabella Jacobs of Lac qui Parle Valley was third with a 169.
Lac qui Parle Valley won the Class A team title with 720, 26 strokes ahead of runner-up Park Christian at 746. Badger-Greenbush-Middle River was third with a 770.
