DePestel wins club championship
Going into the final nine-hole round, Brandon Hennen had three-stroke lead. Unfortunately, “I just feel apart,” said Hennen, who shot a 47.
Norman DePestel took advantage, shot a 41 on the final nine and won the Minneota Club Tournament on Saturday.
His final scored of 121 was three better than Hennen. Mike Hammer and Walker Hennen ended in a two-way tie for third place at 126.
While DePestel didn’t feel he was at the top of his game he said, “I really did play solid. It’s always fun to win. The way we set it up this year we just wanted to have fun.”
“It was really a successful tournament — a fun day,” said Club President Mike Fier.
There were 26 participants and, “It was a good day at the golf course,” said Fier.
DePestel said he hasn’t played as much golf this summer as he had in the past.
This was his third club championship. He won the 15th and 16th tournaments and now the 19th. The first flight winner was Tony Ufkin with an 88 and Jim Rolbiecki shot an 80 to take the seniors tournament.
