Sagedahl passes BOLD into state championship
BOLD is headed to its seventh Prep Bowl in school history. And in order to win the school’s third state title — and the first since 1991 — the Warriors will have to go through a Prep Bowl newcomer.
In Prep Bowl XXXVIII, BOLD will take on Blooming Prairie for the Class A championship at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 29 at U.S. Bank Stadium. It will be a rematch of last fall’s Class A state semifinals where the Warriors locked up the Awesome Blossoms in a 37-7 win.
In that game, BOLD outgained Blooming Prairie on the ground 340-34 and scored 27 straight points to close out the game. Last week BOLD defeated Browerville/Eagle Valley, 56-7 to earn a repeat to the state title game.
Quarterback Jordan Sagedahl hit on 20 of 25 passes for 355 yards and tossed six touchdown passes in the one-sided win.
Gavin Vosika caught 49-, 44-, 11- and 33-yard strikes from Sagedahl.
The Browerville-Grey Eagle Tigers opened the game with a drive that went 17 plays and chewed up over nine minutes of clock, resulting in a one-yard rushing score by Landon Gode.
But they couldn’t stop Sagedahl, nor could they generate enough offense to offset the arm of Sagedahl. Sagedahl did not turn the ball over, nor was he sacked in the entire Prep Bowl semi-final game. He said, “They played really soft (coverage). They played back so we hit a bunch of underneath (passes), then we had play action and hit a few deep.
I think they were more rattled over anything (with us) hitting almost every pass.”
Coach Derek Flann said, “We made some minor adjustments and the kids got ‘er done.” BOLD is the Section 5A champion and they took second to Mahnomen-Wabun in last year’s Class A Prep Bowl championship game.
ALSO MAKING an appearance in the state finals will be Mountain Lake-Area, when they face Hancock for the Nine-Man championship. Nine-Man scores: Hancock 65, Mt. Iron-Buhl 32 Mountain Lake Area 45, Win-E-Mac 6
