Vultures fall to Luverne in opener
The Minneota Junior Vultures dropped their season opener to Luverne Monday night, falling 8-4 at K.P. Kompelien Field in Minneota.
The Vultures rapped out seven hits, including a solo home run by Ryan Meagher over the center field fence.
Peyton Gillund had a double for Minneota, while Ryan Dalager, Joe Voit, Isaac Pohlen, Brody Larson and Adam Dalager all had singles.
The Vultures jumped out to a 3-2 lead in the first inning but eventually succumbed when Luverne plated four runs in the sixth inning.
Peyton Sheik started on the mound and pitching the first two innings, allowing three runs in absorbing the loss. Peyton Gillund hurled the next four frames and was touched for six hits and five runs. Jack Lacek pitched a hitless seventh inning.
"Our pitching wasn't as sharp as it was all spring with this group," said coach J.D. Pesch. "We weren't getting ahead in the count with strikes first, falling behind in the count and the Luverne batters took advantage of that."
