Youth qualify for state wrestling tourney
Minneota qualified 25 youth wrestlers from the 2018 Region 2 Individual Tournament. There were 490 wrestlers that competed in the Region 2 Tournament this year.
The qualifying wrestlers will compete Thursday, April 5 through Sunday, April 8 at the state tournament in Rochester.
Minneota will also have a Seventh and eighth Grade Team and a Kindergarten-Sixth Grade Team at the State Tournament.
They will have this weekend off due to Easter weekend and then will wrestle at the state tournament next weekend.
“We had a great Region Tournament. This is the most individuals we have had qualify in the last eight years. Some of our wrestlers were not able to make it to the region due to the weather conditions on Saturday,” said Coach Matt Myrvik.
Windom was the wildcard region this year, “So we were able to get our fourth place finishers to the state tournament as well,” he added.
Coaches are Drew Bouwman, Beau Buysse, Kyle Hennen, Bruce Laleman, Matt Myhre and Matt Myrvik. Here are how the individuals did at the Regions.
